Stream of Consciousness Sunday: What Do You See?

What is that old saying?  “One person’s trash is another person’s treasure.”  What I’ve always taken that to mean is that something that looks uninteresting or offensive to one person looks beautiful to someone else.  So when I show you the photo below, what do you see?  Because I see possibility!

Your first question might be “What is it?” and your second might be “Why is it so messy? And seemingly unorganized?”  To answer your first question, it is a picture of rolls of fabric at a delightful New York City fabric store.  And there is a method to the madness.  It is easier to store it in this way and the fabric is grouped by type and general color family.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to visit this fabric store with a designer friend of mine.  She and I are working on a dress to be made just for me.  We started our day at the fabric store to gain inspiration, went to her factory to try on dress styles, and then back to the fabric store now that we had more clarity.  To see how different fabrics look overlaying a base, how they drape, how they look in different light is enchanting.

It has felt like a long winter.  The cold, the dark, the bad weather can sometimes leave our minds dark and uninspired.  Looking at the possibility in the fabric store yesterday brightened my spirit and got my creative juices flowing!  What do you see that is your “treasure”?

  1. This is great 😀 I’m trying to thinking of more ways to get my writing out there while I put together a book of short stories. In the meantime, I’ll look for more contests and check out fellow blogs 🙂

  2. I see a photo album of organic seeds waiting to be planted. I’ve been collecting them for almost a year for my deck container garden which by Summer will be a sight to behold. A labor of love. A thing of beauty. Starting seeds over the next few weeks. Stopping over from Fadra’s #SOCSunday linkups.

  3. Oh, I love it when I feel inspired. I have to admit, the winter weather is clouding my creativity but I feel Spring is almost here. BTW, anything even remotely crafty (including fabric) scares me tremendously. I had one experience in a fabric store and I learned quickly how much the good stuff costs!
