A Time To Play

Ecclesiastes 3 states that there is a time for everything in life.  I’ve always found this verse comforting through the highs and lows of my life, knowing that it is all part of God’s plan for us.  But although the verses talk about time to laugh and time to dance, how often do we take the time to do those activities?  How often do we take the time to play?

Last weekend, I was with my young niece and nephew for my nephew’s birthday party.  As a childless couple, my husband and I aren’t around children a lot.  His party was held at large warehouse venue that was full of inflated devices that allowed children to bounce, jump, run, and slide with abandon!  First of all, just listening the the shrieks of joy was uplifting!  And watching all of that energy in one room!  It was infectious!

After the party was over, we went back to my brother’s house for a family only birthday.  I discovered that my nephew had light sabers!  My brother and I picked them up and started to do battle.  My husband took out picture (unbeknownst to me) – the smile on my face is priceless!

I'm pretty sure I was winning!
I’m pretty sure I was winning!

Afterward, the weather was so nice that we went outside and my husband and I kicked a soccer ball around the yard and we played with bubbles with my niece and nephew.  When they handed me the large wand, I dipped it into the bubble solution and just spun around with it!  The kids loved the big bubbles that floated all around!

I don’t remember the last time I played before last weekend.  I have to make time to do that more often!
