Confidence – Super Bowl Edition

Tonight, the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots will face off in Super Bowl XLIX in Arizona.  The coaches and players on both teams are among the very best in their professions.  Very few men make it to these esteemed ranks and even fewer can say that they played in a Super Bowl.  You would imagine that they are the most confident individuals on the planet.

Yet, often we see headlines on the confidence levels of professional athletes:

“Has Player A Lost Confidence?”

“Is Player B’s Confidence a Benefit or a Detriment?”

“Player C’s Confidence Grows”

When a player feels confident, more often than not they are able to take their talents to the next level of superior performance.  Success can then breed more confidence and give them the mental ability to try something even more difficult.  Even being around others who are successful and confident can raise their levels of confidence too.  (We’ve all seen how momentum can shift in a game and what that means to the team who claimed momentum!)

Have you ever taken the time to think about situations in which you are confident and others in which you have doubts?  Write them down on a piece of paper.  For those in the “doubts” column, think about why you feel that way and turn the concern into a positive statement.  Just like pro athletes exude self-confidence, so can you!
